my lifesaver

My morning latte saves the day once again.

the mommy circus

The mommy circus is a place where all the mommies go when their children are acting wild and whiney (or so says my aunt). Today I wanted to run away to the mommy circus, but instead I ran away to Michael’s and JoAnn’s. I was looking for these:

Which were needed for my Advent star path. This is the first year I’ve done a star path and I am quite excited. I think that A will really like it. I tried to find a link that explains exactly what a star path is, but no such luck. Basically it is a type of Advent calendar where Mary (with or without Joseph) follow a path, made of one star for each day in Advent, to the crèche at the end. Simmy has a nice post describing her star path last year.

Last year I made a wool felt Holy Family, but thought that A was a little too young to understand the whole concept of why we were moving them.

The weather is really starting to change from autumn to winter. Today we had a big front come through and the temperature changed from chilly to quite frosty. I love this change in the weather.

Few leaves remain on the trees and it is really starting to seem like winter. Surprisingly we haven’t had a major snowfall, but I can’t imagine we’ll go too far into December without having one.

a quiet day

We've had a fairly peaceful day today. There's been the usual nap-needed tantrum, but it wasn't as bad as it can be.

Our friend Black Squirrel has come to visit us multiple times, something my almost 3 year-old, A, loves. He gets excited everytime Black Squirrel hops onto our deck to see what goodies we left him in the planter - today it was banana chips. (Sorry for the crummy pictures, I had to take them through the slider door)

I also made a bag on request from A. He wanted a special bag to carry his favorite car and his dog, Woof (a gift from Grandma when W was born) around in. I didn't use a patten, but it is based on the one from Bend the Rules Sewing. I used a dark brown fine-wale corduroy and the apple is wool felt that I blanket-stitched on.

I also put up some Advent and Christmas decorations. I'm not one to start Christmas directly after Thanksgiving, but now having kids I like to put up the Advent ones before Advent begins. Then they get used to them before we start changing things around. I still need to get a couple things for Mary's Star Path, so hopefully I'll have a post on these things soon.

chilly autumn day

The chilly autumn day has inspired me to make angry chicken's delicious chocolate chip pumpkin muffins.

Even with the chilly weather we thought that a walk was needed to get us out of our post-thanksgiving daze.

here we go

Well, I've decided to give this a try. I can't promise much, but here it is.
